Jimmy Page held a listening party today at Paris’ L’Olympia, where Led Zeppelin played on October 10th, 1969.

He let people hear previously unreleased Led Zep recordings that will appear on the first three albums, which are being re-released with additional material.

Not sure how long this will remain online so watch it now.

[In August of this year I’ll be publishing my rock ‘n’ roll/ coming-of-age novel, “True Love Scars,” which features a narrator who is obsessed with Bob Dylan. To read the first chapter, head here.]

Audio: Led Zeppelin’s ‘Good Times Bad Times’ / ‘Communication Breakdown’ Live In Paris, 1969

This kicks ass.

“Good Times Bad Times” / “Communication Breakdown,” live in Paris, 1969.

This is from the upcoming expanded rerelease of Led Zeppelin’s debut album, Led Zeppelin

There’s not much of “Good Times Bad Times,” but you’ll likely dig “Communication Breakdown.”

April Fools! Surviving Led Zeppelin Members & Tina Turner Record Album Together

Photo via The Arts Desk.

Tina Turner’s next album will feature one of the most celebrated hard rock bands — Led Zeppelin, according to The Arts Desk.

Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham, son of the late Zep drummer John Bonham, back Turner on the album, a collection of blues and folk standards that also includes one new song.

The Arts Desk reports:

Songs thus far revealed include an original duet between Turner and Plant entitled “Saltflower”, alongside versions of the Nineteenth century negro spiritual “Wade in the Water”, the folk song ‘Jack O’Diamonds”, covered by everyone from Blind Lemon Jefferson to Nick Cave, and Etta James’ “Something’s Got A Hold On Me”. theartsdesk were permitted only to hear a two minute segment of “Wade in the Water”. Based very much on Big Mama Thornton’s very secular 1968 blues-rock version, Robert Plant is absent but Turner’s raw, almost hoarse vocals, ride a scorching distorted Page riff that will satisfy Zep fans.

Turner hasn’t released an album since 2000. She met JimmyPage at a party in the south of France while on honeymoon last summer after marrying German music executive Erwin Bach, her partner of 27 years, according to The Arts Desk. Page suggested bringing his mobile recording studio to the couple’s lakeside home in Küsnacht, Switzerland. The album was recorded last November.

If only…

Video: Dream Syndicate + Peter Buck + Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones Jam on ‘John Coltrane Stereo Blues’

Photo via Steve Wynn’s Facebook page.

This is crazy cool.

Peter Bucks hosts the Todos Santos Music Festival in the southern Baja region of Mexico each year (this was the third fest).

This year there was a major jam session on January 24, 2014 with The Dream Syndicate, Buck and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones.

The Dream Syndicate’s Steve Wynn writes on Facebook:

Ah, I had a feeling something would show up–and there it is. The Dream Syndicate playing “John Coltrane Stereo Blues” in Todos Santos last Saturday with John Paul Jones and Peter Buck (with Linda Pitmon and Josh Kantor) And check out JPJ’s solo around the 7 minute mark. Amazing–I was flashing back to seeing Led Zep at the Forum back in 1976.

Here’s The Dream Syndicate doing the Velvet’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll” at the festival:

Jimmy Page Says Three Led Zeppelin Reissues Will Be Released This Year

Screen shot of Jimmy Page’s post at his website.

As you may know, Jimmy Page has been working on sonically improved and expanded versions of all the Led Zeppelin albums.

Those albums will include alternate takes and other material, in addition to remastered versions of the original songs.

Although some Zep experts thought all the albums would be out this year, it now turns out that 2014 will see the release of the fist three albums: Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III.

Here’s what Page posted on his website:

It’s good news for the New Year. The first of the Led Zeppelin releases – comprising of Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III and their companion discs – will be released this year. I’ve also been working on some of my own material from the archives that will be unleashed in 2014.

Meanwhile you can listen to this motherfucker off the first album:

Fooled Again: Two Year Old Led Zep-Notorious B.I.G. Mashup Gets Media Hot

On Friday Rolling Stone posted about “Ramblize,” a mashup of Zed Zeppelin’s “Ramble On” and Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize,” which Jimmy Page featured on his members-only website, jimmypage.com that same day.

A bunch of other music sites have been posting about the mashup too.

Only it turns out “Ramblize” is old news. Very old news.

Like two-and-a-half years old news.

“Ramblize” was uploaded to YouTube on May 11, 2011. Check it out.

Then again, I guess it’s news that Page himself digs the track enough to have featured it on his website.
